About The School

Mark Crewe-ReadClasses are kept small

Castle House is an independent day school of about 100 children, boys and girls aged 2-11. It is Accredited by ISC (Independent Schools Council) and a member of ISA (Independent Schools Association).

Classes are kept small – a maximum of 18 children, but many are smaller. There is one class in each year group, from Reception to Year 6. In addition, CHerubS Nursery caters for 2, 3 and 4 year old pre-school children.

The numbers of children in the school are such that everyone knows everyone else which contributes to the family atmosphere.

Younger children are taught mainly by their form teachers, with some input from specialists. As the children grow older, increasing amounts of the curriculum are covered by specialist teachers who work to a carefully structured timetable.

Hours of attendance are from 8.40 am to 3.50 pm. (Reception to 3.30 pm, Year 1 to 3.40 pm). There is a full programme of after-school activities, with many children staying on each day until later.

CHerubS Nursery children can attend flexible sessions between 8.00am and 6.00 pm. The Nursery is a member of Telford and Wrekin Early Years Partnership, which enables parents to receive local authority funding towards the cost.

The school is inspected by ISI, the Independent Schools’ Inspectorate. CHerubS Nursery is registered with the Telford and Wrekin EarlyYears Partnership. The school is owned and run by a trust, Castle House School Trust Ltd, a non-profit making body which is a registered charity (510515). There are up to twelve governors of the school who are members of the Trust. They meet regularly to guide the affairs of the school. The headmaster reports to the chairman of governors.

Each class has its own form teacher. The teaching staff includes a number of part-timers who offer specialist provision, eg in Art, PE, Swimming, Gymnastics, Dance, Drama, Music etc. Staff are graduates and qualified teachers. Our Inspection report can be viewed here.
